Ohio Turnpike installing E-ZPass by next year

BEREA, Ohio (AP) - The Ohio Turnpike will install the E-ZPass electronic toll payment system by late summer 2009, allowing motorists to drive to the East Coast without stopping to pay tolls.
The turnpike commission voted Monday to approve a $28.7 million contract that will include the E-ZPass system compatible in 12 states from Illinois to Maine.
The turnpike initially will not have E-ZPass-only lanes that allow motorists to drive slowly through a toll plaza while a transponder records charges. Instead, E-ZPass customers will share toll-payment lanes with cash customers.
