  • MTA, NYPD crack down on Ghost Plates, persistent toll violators

    Transportationtodaynews.com - April 23, 2024 - On Monday, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Bridges and Tunnels (MTA B&T) and the New York City Police Department (NYPD) a crackdown on “ghost vehicles” and persistent toll violators.

    The interagency operation included MTA B&T officers, the NYPD, New York State Police, Port Authority Police, the New York City Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Between April 18 and 19, officers seized 21 vehicles for numerous violations including unpaid tolls, unregistered vehicles and suspended licenses, among other traffic violations. The operation amassed 21 arrests and 793 summonses for more than $586,000 in unpaid tolls, fees, judgments and debts. Read more >>

  • Massachusetts Transit Official Proposes State Border Tolls

    Governing.com - April 23, 2024 - The Massachusetts secretary of transportation said she's seriously considering a plan to erect toll booths along the state borders to deal with a revenue crunch, but Gov. Maura Healey said she is not proposing border tolls.

    Monica Tibbits-Nutt offered the suggestion as one of several ideas during her speech April 10 at the annual celebration of the Walk Massachusetts organization in Cambridge, Mass.

    Tibbits-Nutt heads a task force charged with coming up with a new financial model for transportation by the end of this year. Read more >>

  • Researchers find dozens of fake E-ZPass toll websites after FBI warning

    Therecord.media - April 19, 2024 - Cybersecurity researchers have found almost 30 phishing websites spoofing the electronic toll collection service E-ZPass following an FBI warning last week.

    The FBI said in an alert that since early March the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) has received over 2,000 complaints reporting smishing texts impersonating road toll collection services from at least three states.

    Smishing is a social engineering attack using fake text messages to trick people into downloading malware, sharing sensitive information, or sending money. The complaints seen by the FBI indicate “the scam may be moving from state-to-state,” they said. Read more >>

  • PA Turnpike Alerts E-ZPass Users of Phishing Scam

    PATurnpike.com - April 7, 2024 - On Sunday afternoon, the PA Turnpike was advised of a phishing scam that is targeting E-ZPass account holders requesting personal financial information to settle outstanding toll amounts.

    The texts purport to be from “Pa Turnpike Toll Services” and center around urgent requests with your account that would result in a late fee if the balance does not get settled. Similar scams have been reported by toll agencies across the country over the past several days. Read more >>

  • VDOT explains why some saw $15 toll charge on I-64

    VDOT responded to why there was an alarming $15 toll price on the I-64 Norfolk Reversible Express Lanes, near Tidewater Drive.
